How Internships Meet Oregon Education Standards

Student Internships Home

In the near future all Oregon high school students will be required to meet new education requirements to graduate. Two new standards directly related to career development are:

Career Related Learning Standards (CRLS)

CRLS are fundamental skills essential for success in employment, college, family and community life. Sometimes they are referred to as soft skills, employability skills or workplace readiness skills.

CRLS skills include:

  • Personal Management
Exhibiting appropriate work ethic and behavior
  • Problem Solving
    Using problem solving techniques effectively
  • Communication
    Demonstrating effective communication skills
  • Teamwork/collaboration
Ability to effectively work with others
  • Employment foundations
Demonstrating academic, technical and organizational knowledge and skills
  • Career development
Demonstrating career development skills in planning for post-high school experiences

Career Related Learning Experiences (CRLE)

Students will use their Career Related Learning Standard skills within Career Related Learning Experiences (CRLE). CRLEs are education experiences that connect learning to the world beyond the classroom.

They provide opportunities for students to apply academic, career-related and technical knowledge and skills.

Internships are one example of a Career Related Learning Experience (CRLE).
