For both high school and college students, BEC internships help in making informed career decisions and curriculum choices consistent with their interests. The BEC handles all the details—from recruiting to matching, interview scheduling, new hire orientation, payroll, employee management and progress monitoring.
An internship is an in-depth, hands-on experience for high school and college students, including graduate level students, with an emphasis on personalized learning. As an intern, students will get the chance to work alongside professionals in the workplace, getting a taste for what it means to work within their field of interest and see what kind of career path they can follow.
There are many benefits to being involved in an internship. It answers the question, "What do I want to be when I grow up?"
Once students are involved in a personalized, hands-on experience in a career field of interest, they begin to see how what they are learning in school relates to being successful in the workplace. Seeing this connection makes being motivated to excel in the classroom much easier!
Internships provide students with the opportunity to utilize their skills, talents and abilities in new and interesting ways. They develop new skills specific to the career field they are interested in and "soft skills" such as teamwork, communication and problem solving
Employers want to see that applicants have some experience under their belt when applying for jobs. Internships provide the opportunity to pack a resume with relevant experience that help to get a job in the future.
Not only will students have the opportunity to develop a world-class resume with experience, they'll get paid for doing it! The Business Education Compact works with large and small businesses from a variety of sectors including sales and marketing, high-tech, financial and utilities. The work is interesting and the pay is an added bonus!
"My internship gave the extra skills and confidence that I would not have received by going to school alone. It has given me and my career a huge jumpstart, and I have the BEC to thank for it."
