The Proficiency Portal is a free resource for teachers, support staff, administrators, and district office leadership – anyone implementing proficiency-based teaching and learning at the classroom building or district level.
A continually updated document library, it is filled with proficiency resource materials posted by practicing teachers. This includes assessments, assignments, classroom rules, letters to parents, tasks, and many other resources that support implementing proficiency-based teaching and learning in secondary classrooms.
The Business Education Compact (BEC) is able to provide this portal through educational partnerships with the Oregon Department of Education and the Oregon Virtual School District. As partners in this effort, we stand committed to initiate and support efforts to help all students and teachers in Oregon’s classrooms benefit from proficiency practices.
Documents in the Proficiency Portal reflect a variety of approaches and interests since proficiency-based practices can be implemented in many different ways. Proficiency-based practices are not highly defined in Oregon’s current law; however, teachers that are using proficiency are helping define what a classroom should look like and how teachers and students should work with one another.
The BEC has reviewed each of the posted documents and some of them are more developed than others. In addition, some may be based on district adopted standards instead of state standards. And some documents may have been submitted using MS Word, while others were submitted in PDF format. They are posted in their original format.
Teachers can send documents for posting to:
Diane Smith, Teaching & Learning Initiative Director, dsmith@becpdx.org, 503-646-0242 x28
The BEC will review and post materials that meet posting criteria. Documents must have a footer that references the name of the school, department and source. We will review and post any submitted material without identifying the person providing it.
The BEC will keep the site current and continue to add documents shared by teachers that meet posting criteria.
