Make Learning Real for K-12 Students
Bring Math and Science to Life!

Partner with the Business Education Compact (BEC) to bring science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) to life for K-12 students!

Through the National Engineers Month (NEM) program, professionals in the engineering and technology fields show students how math and science are used in the “real world,” visiting hundreds of Oregon classrooms each February. Student motivation to excel in math and science soars when they learn of the exciting and rewarding careers that await them!

Since 1995, the BEC has managed this high-impact event, inviting local organizations to participate. With just 45% of high school students achieving basic math and science standards, these real-world classroom connections are more vital than ever. NEM infuses student learning with relevance and ignites the imagination of our future engineers! Help us stimulate our kids to pursue studies in math and science.

Why Participate in NEM?

It is critical for employers to connect with schools through programs like National Engineers Month.

When professional volunteers step into the classroom, a real-world connection occurs that is a powerful learning exchange. Learning comes alive as students experience engineering in action and get excited about math and science in a new way.

NEM Stimulates K-12 Interest in Math & Science

  • The annual infusion of engineers into K-12 classrooms during NEM supports workforce development and quality education in Oregon.
  • The time to connect with students about their potential careers is during their K-12 school years. It is at this crucial time that interest is sparked and basic skills are established.
  • Well-prepared high school graduates are more likely to pursue post-secondary degrees in related fields and offer a capable talent pool for employers.
