"STEM Connect addresses the essential academic and experiential learning elements required to move more students into STEM careers. It is exactly what’s needed to captivate student interest and encourage career plans at a critical time in their education."
- Linda Wilson, Manager Corporate Citizenship and Community AffairsIBM
Studies show students begin losing interest in science and math as early as third grade because they don’t see how it is relevant to their future. At the same time, Oregon employers will be struggling to fill the 39,000 STEM-related jobs expected to open by 2020.
Through our STEM Connect program, the BEC is helping students understand how important math and science are to professionals across industries – from design to human services to engineering. The program creates community partnerships between businesses and schools to show students how math and science apply in the real world – and open up the possibilities they see for themselves.
